According to a report from The Telegraph, Virat Kohli is unlikely to make India’s squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup due to his recent lackluster performances in T20 cricket.
There is speculation that senior Indian cricketer Virat Kohli might miss out on selection for the 2024 T20 World Cup in June. The BCCI selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, faces tough decisions as they prepare to submit provisional squads for the tournament in the West Indies and USA in early May.
Kohli’s recent T20 batting form has raised concerns, as reported by The Telegraph. However, his chances could improve if he performs well in the IPL, beginning on March 22.
A source described the situation as delicate, with few willing to intervene, emphasizing Agarkar’s pivotal role in the final decision-making process. Kohli’s performance in the IPL could ultimately determine his inclusion in the squad for the prestigious T20 World Cup.
“It remains a very delicate matter and not many are willing to get involved,” a source was quoted as saying.
The report also suggested that players like Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, and Shivam Dube are being considered as potential key figures for Team India in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Additionally, the return of Hardik Pandya, who has been sidelined due to an ankle injury since the ODI World Cup last year, is anticipated.
Kohli, who opted out of the England Test series for the birth of his second child, has amassed 4037 runs in 117 T20Is for India to date.
