Sri Lanka faced a setback with their pace bowler Dushmantha Chameera before the India T20I series as he was ruled out due to an injury.
Sri Lanka’s preparations for the upcoming white-ball series against India have received a significant setback with the news of fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera’s injury. The pacer has been ruled out of the series due to a last-minute injury.
Chameera was a key part of the Sri Lankan squad announced by the board recently. However, the recurring injury woes have continued to plague the pacer. Despite featuring in the Lanka Premier League, Chameera’s fitness concerns have persisted.
The absence of Dushmantha Chameera is a considerable blow to Sri Lanka’s bowling attack. The team is already in a rebuilding phase after a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign that led to the resignation of captain Wanindu Hasaranga and coach Chris Silverwood. Charith Asalanka has been appointed as the new captain, with Sanath Jayasuriya taking over as interim coach.
Notably, Chameera has picked up 32 wickets in 12 Test matches at an average of 41.28. In T20Is, he boasts 55 wickets in 55 matches, with his economy rate being the highest amongst the three formats at 8.08 and his strike rate at 21.4.

Sri Lanka will be looking to put the T20 World Cup disappointment behind them as they face a formidable Indian side. India too is undergoing a transition, with Gautam Gambhir taking over as head coach and Suryakumar Yadav leading the team.
The series promises to be a contested affair, with both teams aiming to make a strong start to their respective campaigns. However, the Sri Lankan management now faces the challenge of finding a suitable replacement for Chameera ahead of the series opener on July 27.
