Ravichandran Ashwin’s wife, Prithi, shared an emotional Instagram post reflecting on the intense moments surrounding Ashwin’s milestone of 500 Test wickets.
Ravichandran Ashwin achieved a remarkable milestone of 500 Test wickets during the Rajkot Test against England. However, celebrations were cut short as he had to rush back to Chennai due to a family emergency on Day 3.
Upon returning on Day 4, Ashwin continued to showcase his resilience by taking a wicket and conceding just 19 runs in six overs. His wife, Prithi, shared an emotional message on Instagram, reflecting on the journey to 500 wickets and the challenges they faced amidst the achievement. Despite the whirlwind of emotions, she expressed immense pride in Ashwin’s accomplishment and their unwavering support for him.
“We chased the 500 to Hyderabad, it didn’t happen. To Vizag, it didn’t happen. So I just bought a ton of sweets and gave it to everyone at home at 499. 500 came and went quietly. Till it didn’t. A lot happened between 500 and 501. Longest 48 hours of our lives. But this is about the 500. And the 499 before that. What a phenomenal achievement. What a phenomenal guy. I am insanely proud of you Ravi Ashwin. We love you,” Ashwin’s wife Prithi wrote on Instagram.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma addressed the unexpected absence of Ashwin during the third day of the third Test against England. He expressed full support for Ashwin’s decision to be with his family during a difficult time, highlighting the character and integrity displayed by the seasoned cricketer.
“He wanted to be with the family, which was absolutely the right thing to do. It was good for him, and to make a way and be a part of the team shows his character and the kind of person he is. We were happy to have him back,” Rohit said.
Earlier, Former India coach Ravi Shastri also commended the BCCI for arranging a charter flight to transport the Indian off-spinner back home swiftly.
“The BCCI secretary Jay Shah organized a charter to take him home and bring him back. I think that’s the kind of empathy that’s needed from the BCCI as well. There are the guardians of Indian cricket and with this kind of empathy, they will go a long, long way. It also makes the players feel they belong and are special,” Shastri said during commentary.
