Jofra Archer has been named in England’s squad for the second Test against India at Edgbaston, marking a potential return to red-ball cricket after more than four years. His inclusion is the only change made after England’s five-wicket win at Headingley, which gave them a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The second Test begins on Wednesday.
“The England Men’s selection panel has added Sussex fast bowler Jofra Archer to the squad for the Rothesay second Test match against India at Edgbaston, starting on Wednesday, July 2 2025,” the official ECB statement read.

Archer last played a Test in March 2021 in Ahmedabad and has since dealt with multiple injuries, including an elbow issue and a back stress fracture. He made his first-class comeback for Sussex last weekend against Durham. His return follows a steady comeback in limited-overs cricket, where he has played seven games between March 2021 and May 2024.
Archer now joins a pace unit that includes Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, Jamie Overton and Sam Cook.
