Despite recent criticism, Sreesanth and Moody voiced their support for Hardik Pandya’s selection in the T20 World Cup squad, praising his all-round ability and past performances.
While there has been a lot of debate regarding Hardik Pandya’s inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad for India, former Indian fast bowler Sreesanth and ex-Australian all-rounder Tom Moody have come out in strong support of his selection.
Pandya’s inclusion faced some criticism due to a recent form slump, but both Sreesanth and Moody highlighted his past performances and unique skillset as an all-rounder.
“We’ve all seen what Hardik can do on the field. His batting and bowling for the national team have been impressive. He even led India to a series of victories,” said Sreesanth on Star Sports.
Sreesanth pointed to Pandya’s potential to form a powerful batting duo with Virat Kohli, especially while chasing targets. He also praised Pandya’s bowling versatility, suggesting his ability to take both the ball and bowl in pressure situations.
“There’s no question about his batting, but what makes him special is his bowling. He can take the new ball or come in later, depending on the situation, especially against strong teams like Pakistan,” said the ex-bowler.
Tom Moody echoed Sreesanth’s sentiments, emphasising the rarity of players like Pandya who excel in both batting and bowling. “Name me three other people who can do what Hardik Pandya is doing. That’s the bottom line,” Moody said, highlighting Pandya’s contribution.
Moody commended the selectors for keeping faith in Pandya, acknowledging his importance in maintaining team balance. He advocated for patience as Pandya regains form and recovers from injury.

“I think he stands head and shoulders above anyone who is competing for that particular role. I think (chief selector) Ajit Agarkar has recognised that that is the case and we have to give him a longer rope with regards to his recovery, with regards to his form, and everything else, because he is a very precious commodity in this country,” concluded Moody on Pandya.
