Former Australia captain Meg Lanning, thriving in the Women’s Premier League, is exploring post-retirement options without rushing, enjoying cricket with Delhi.
Surprisingly, last year, former Australia skipper Meg Lanning retired from international cricket. However, she continues to shine in domestic leagues, currently captaining the Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). In a recent development, the batter shared her aspirations for exploration after retirement.
Reflecting on her current role, Lanning expressed her enjoyment of the game and the camaraderie within the team, especially alongside former Australia teammates.
“I am just enjoying playing cricket…having a great time with Delhi. We have got a really good squad of players and staff that make it a cool environment to be in. I feel like there’s a little bit less pressure and expectation. I just come into the game wanting to contribute and help the team win,” Lanning remarked as quoted by ICC.
While Lanning will not be part of Australia’s pursuit of a fourth consecutive T20 World Cup title this year, she acknowledged exploring new opportunities post-retirement.
“I am sort of exploring a few different options in the background,” she revealed while highlighting the luxury of taking her time due to her ongoing cricketing involvement.
Lanning’s transition to the next phase of her career has been seamless. She showcased her prowess at the top of the batting order, amassing 146 runs at a striking rate of 117.46, and her contributions have propelled the Capitals to the top of the WPL table.
As the WPL progresses, Lanning remains focused on her current commitments, aiming to make the most of her playing days before considering what lies ahead.
“The good thing for me is I don’t have to rush into anything. I can keep playing and keep being involved. When an opportunity pops up, I can take it. Will just see how the back end of the tournament pans out, and then I will see what happens after that,” the 31-year-old batter concluded.
