RCB’s Faf du Plessis was controversially run out at the non-striker’s end after a Mitchell Santner deflection which led to a displeased RCB skipper.
During the dramatic showdown between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 18th, Faf du Plessis was dismissed during a controversial runout which left the RCB skipper fuming.
During the 13th over, CSK’s Mitchell Santner appealed for a run-out at the non-striker’s end, with Faf du Plessis of RCB in question. Umpire Michael Gough’s decision to dismiss du Plessis, who argued his bat was grounded, left the batter visibly frustrated. Watch the video below:
The pressure is immense for both sides. RCB, riding a five-match winning streak, needs to maintain their momentum and achieve a significant win. For CSK, even a narrow defeat could see them through, while a win, regardless of the margin, guarantees their playoff spot.
The threat of rain looms large, potentially impacting the outcome. A washout would favour CSK, automatically sending them to the playoffs and eliminating RCB from contention.

Both teams are desperate for victory. CSK, currently sitting on 14 points with a Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.528, needs a win or a close loss (within 17 runs) to secure their place. RCB, trailing with 12 points and an NRR of +0.387, requires a win by at least 18 runs to overcome CSK’s NRR advantage. Kolkata Knight Riders, SunRisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals have already booked their playoff berths, leaving only one spot remaining.
All eyes will be on Bengaluru as RCB and CSK battle for the final IPL playoff spot. The stakes are high, the tension is palpable, and the outcome promises to be a nail-biter.
