Sreesanth highlighted parallels between Sachin Tendulkar playing under MS Dhoni’s captaincy for Team India and Rohit Sharma’s potential to excel under new captain Hardik Pandya’s leadership in IPL 2024.
Former Indian pacer S Sreesanth dismissed concerns over Rohit Sharma playing under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy in IPL 2024, despite Rohit’s previous leadership of the Mumbai Indians being replaced by Pandya due to an off-season trade. Sreesanth referenced Sachin Tendulkar’s success under MS Dhoni’s captaincy for Team India, emphasizing that such transitions can yield positive outcomes. He noted Rohit’s potential to excel without the burden of captaincy, predicting a fruitful batting season for him.

“We have seen the god of cricket, the great Sachin Tendulkar play under Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni). We won the World Cup too. A lot of stories are being told about Rohit Sharma playing under new captain Hardik Pandya but Rohit would love to play freely,” said Sreesanth.
“As far as I know Rohit, he would look to bat freely, without any captaincy burden, and may take the Orange Cap too. He is going to have a great season. He has led Mumbai Indians from the front but I am sure Rohit is going to lead Mumbai Indians from the back,” he added.
However, Rohit Sharma’s IPL 2024 campaign with MI has been underwhelming, scoring just 69 runs in three innings, while MI sits at the bottom of the table with three consecutive losses under Hardik’s captaincy. Speculation also arises about Rohit’s potential move in IPL 2025, but Sreesanth believes Rohit will maintain his excellence regardless of the franchise. Rohit’s association with MI dates back to 2011, leading the team to five titles since 2013.
