Ishan Kishan, who made his Test debut last week, couldn’t stop praising Rohit Sharma’s leadership style.
Having played under Rohit’s captaincy for a considerable period, Ishan revealed that he felt at ease during his debut Test series. The Indian captain’s advice to block out external noise and have faith in his game plan proved instrumental.
Rohit’s trust in Ishan’s game plan and his ability to maintain clarity amidst the pressures of Test cricket significantly contributed to the latter’s successful introduction to the format.
In the first Test, Ishan Kishan’s display was brief as India declared early to secure an innings win. Nonetheless, he made a significant impact in the second game, smashing a quickfire half-century. Scoring 25 off 37 in the first innings and an unbeaten 52 off 34 balls in the second,
Ishan credited captain Rohit Sharma for creating a comfortable environment within the team. Ishan remarked, “He’s a very experienced captain, knows how to deal with youngsters. I have seen him in IPL, ODIs, and T20s how he follows up with every player, tries to keep them in a comfort zone so they don’t feel any pressure. When I was heading in, he asked me to trust my own game, plan and not listen to anyone. So it’s a plus point for a youngster to stay in the zone that captain and coaches have faith in me,”
“The strategy was to counter the left-arm spinners aiming at the right-handers by landing the ball on the rough patches, making it challenging for them to score runs,” Ishan revealed.
“We weren’t looking to bat for an extended period since we already had a substantial lead. Our objective was to set a target and get the opposition back on the field, thus expediting their dismissal. Thus, the decision to promote me up the order was to adopt a positive approach and amass as many runs as possible within 10 overs,” he further explained.
