Sourav Ganguly believes Australia missed a valuable opportunity by not selecting Jake Fraser-McGurk, citing the 22-year-old’s potential as a game-changer and his commendable attitude toward the game.
Despite missing out on a spot in Australia’s T20 World Cup squad, young batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk, aged 22, has showcased his talent for Delhi Capitals in the IPL, amassing 330 runs in nine matches at an impressive strike rate exceeding 234. Despite his omission, Fraser-McGurk’s fearless batting has earned praise from Sourav Ganguly and Delhi coach Ricky Ponting.
Ganguly emphasized Fraser-McGurk’s hunger for success and highlighted the guidance provided by Ponting. The former cricketer also expressed his belief in Fraser-McGurk’s bright future in cricket, acknowledging the stiff competition within the Australian team but emphasizing his potential for a long and successful career.
“With Ricky around he guided Jake very well. What I like about him is he’s hungry, he wants to play well. I know he missed out on the World Cup, Australia should have probably picked him,” Ganguly said.
“But that’s the way it goes when you have so many good players in Warner, Travis Head and Mitch Marsh at three, you will obviously miss out. But he’s just 22 and he has got a long career. For us, he is a game changer and that’s what you need in this format,” he added.

Fraser-McGurk, initially unsold at the IPL auction, later joined Delhi Capitals as an injury replacement. Earlier, Ponting had praised him as a “serious talent,” likening his aggressive batting style and effortless sixes to Warner’s early career flair.
