The BCCI is reportedly close to appointing Gautam Gambhir as the next head coach of the Indian Cricket Team, with sources indicating that the decision is almost finalized.
Recent reports from Cricbuzz suggest that Gautam Gambhir is set to be appointed as the head coach of the Indian Cricket Team, following extensive backing from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Insider sources linked to the BCCI have indicated Gambhir’s almost certain selection for the prominent coaching role.
Notably, a well-connected IPL franchise owner, with close ties to the BCCI leadership, informed Cricbuzz that Gambhir’s appointment is essentially confirmed and will be made official after the IPL final. Furthermore, a respected commentator with deep ties with BCCI affairs mentioned ongoing efforts to secure Gambhir’s services.
The application deadline for the position was Monday, Gambhir has likely submitted his formal application. The reports also hinted Gambhir had informed people close to him, including Shah Rukh Khan, that he was considering the offer.
Earlier, Rahul Dravid, whose tenure concluded post the T20 World Cup, reportedly opted out of reapplying for the coaching post. While names like Stephen Fleming were under consideration, the spotlight shined on the KKR mentor. The BCCI’s keen interest in Gambhir reportedly stemmed from the shared commitment to serving the nation.
Despite Gambhir’s limited coaching experience, his impactful leadership at Kolkata Knight Riders, guiding them to an IPL win as a mentor, definitely underscores his potential for success in this new coaching role.
