Gautam Gambhir revealed that while he still has his aggressive nature, becoming a father has made him think twice before reacting impulsively.
India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir reflected on his fiery temperament, acknowledging that age and family have slightly mellowed his reactions. Known for his on-field confrontations with players like Shahid Afridi, Shane Watson, and Virat Kohli, Gambhir built a reputation for his attitude. He revealed that while his instinct to confront situations remains strong, fatherhood has brought a sense of restraint.
Gambhir made the remarks during a recent episode of Home Town Hero, aired during the India vs West Indies Test.
“I’m still aggressive, but there is one change now. Whenever I try to be – that first instinct is still pretty much there – but my first reaction is to take on the fight. But somewhere, with age, the first thing that comes to mind is ‘Ghar pe bachhe hain’ (There are kids at home),” Gambhir said.
Meanwhile, under Shubman Gill’s leadership, India is chasing its first series win of the 2025–2027 World Test Championship cycle. After a 2-2 draw against England, India won the first Test against West Indies in Ahmedabad and aims for a clean sweep in Delhi. A series win would add crucial WTC points, boosting India’s third-place standing behind Australia and Sri Lanka.
