Yashasvi Jaiswal praised coach Gautam Gambhir for instilling confidence in the team during his first series as head coach in Sri Lanka.
India’s rising star Yashasvi Jaiswal is gearing up for a crucial home season, as the 22-year-old aims to make the most of upcoming domestic tournaments. Reflecting on the impact of newly-appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir, Jaiswal praised Gambhir for instilling a fearless mindset within the team during his first series as coach in Sri Lanka.
“Yes, I have spoken with him during the Sri Lanka series. He really backed us, saying just go out and play freely, enjoy the game, and we will be with you. It gives us a lot of confidence and helps us to play fearlessly,” Jaiswal told PTI.
Jaiswal, who is yet to debut in the ODI format, is eyeing a spot as India’s opener in Tests and T20Is. With the Duleep Trophy season in full swing, he sees the tournament as an opportunity to sharpen his skills ahead of the Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand.

“I’m working hard in the nets, first for the Duleep Trophy and then for the Bangladesh series. It’s not about setting personal goals; in cricket, you need to be consistent and continuously improve your skills,” Jaiswal said.
Jaiswal had a breakthrough Test series against England, becoming only the second Indian batter after Sunil Gavaskar to score over 700 runs in a single series. He also crossed 1,000 Test runs in just 16 innings, making him the second-fastest Indian to achieve the milestone after Vinod Kambli, who reached the mark in 14 innings.
