Shah Rukh Khan had reportedly proposed a 10-year management offer to Gautam Gambhir for KKR, with a blank cheque.
Gautam Gambhir, the mentor for the Kolkata Knight Riders, is reportedly a leading candidate to replace Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, according to sources within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The deadline for applications is May 27, and Gambhir is said to be considering applying for the position, although he has not yet submitted a formal application.
Reports suggested that Gambhir will meet with several BCCI officials on the day of the IPL 2024 final, where KKR will face Sunrisers Hyderabad in Chennai. However, Gambhir may face a hurdle in securing the role as he would need to obtain approval from KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan, who had convinced him to rejoin the franchise as a mentor before the start of IPL 2024.
According to Dainik Jagran, Shah Rukh Khan had a meeting with Gambhir prior to the current IPL season, offering him a management role with KKR for a long tenure of the next ten years along with a blank cheque.

Gambhir’s return to KKR for IPL 2024 saw immediate success, with the franchise finishing at the top of the league stage and securing a spot in the final. As a former captain of KKR, Gambhir led the team to victory in both their IPL title wins.
Several other prominent names have been linked to the position of India’s head coach, including VVS Laxman, Ricky Ponting, Justin Langer, and Stephen Fleming. Ponting, in particular, revealed that he had discussions regarding the coaching role with the Indian team during IPL 2024 but cited concerns about the extensive travel and long-term commitment as reasons for not pursuing the position. However, the BCCI has denied making any individual approaches for the role thus far.
