Gautam Gambhir dismissed rumors of unrest in the Indian dressing room, calling them baseless and untrue.

India started the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 on a high note, securing a commanding 295-run win in the first Test at Perth. However, as the series heads into its final match, the stakes are high for India. A defeat in the fifth Test would mean losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in nearly a decade.

Despite trailing 1-2, head coach Gautam Gambhir remained optimistic ahead of the New Year’s Test in Sydney. He expressed confidence in the team’s ability to bounce back and emphasized that their current position in the series was a strong one, given recent struggles.

“If someone had said this 40-45 days ago that we would be in this situation, that we can come to Sydney and draw this series, then it’s a good position to be in. And I don’t think so that nothing is under control. When we come on a tour, it’s not like batting didn’t do well or bowling didn’t do well,” said Gambhir during the pre-match press conference.

“If batting and bowling didn’t do well, we wouldn’t have won a Test match or we wouldn’t have been 2-1 down. We could have been in a worse situation. So as I said, I don’t think that there is so much to worry about,” he added.

Gambhir then dismissed rumors of tension in the Indian dressing room, pointing out that such reports are unfounded. He highlighted that discussions between players and management are natural but should remain private.

“Debates between coach and player should remain in the dressing room. These are just reports, not the truth. Stern words and honest conversations are a part of the game, but they don’t belong in the public domain,” the coach said.

The team remains in contention to level the series in the final Test in Sydney. A draw or win would ensure India retains the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, as they were the previous holders during the 2022-23 season.
