Gautam Gambhir might reportedly join as ICT coach, as he was reported to be found shooting a farewell video at the Eden Gardens.
Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir appears to take over as the head coach of the Indian Cricket Team following Rahul Dravid’s successful tenure that ended with India’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory.
Gambhir, a frontrunner for ICT head coach position, recently made a significant move by attending a farewell shoot at Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens. This event, reportedly organized by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), was held specifically for Gambhir to bid farewell to his fans in Kolkata, where he has a storied history as KKR’s mentor.
Sources close to the development revealed that Gambhir, accompanied by his personal team, shot a video at the stadium. This video, not associated with his IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders, aims to highlight his journey with the team, including his impactful role as mentor during the IPL 2024 season, which saw the Kolkata Knight Riders win the title under captain Shreyas Iyer.

While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to issue an official confirmation regarding Gambhir’s appointment, these recent actions suggest that the former opener is preparing for a significant role in Indian cricket. According to an official of Cricket Association of Bengal, “It was a low-key affair, but Gambhir wanted to bid goodbye to his fans with a message and that is why they shot a video at the Eden.”
The BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, had previously indicated that the new head coach would be responsible for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, which includes three ODIs and as many T20Is. Currently, during the ongoing five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, VVS Laxman, head of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, is serving as interim head coach.
