Gautam Gambhir revealed his all-time India XI, leaving out notable players like Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah.
Former Indian cricketer and current head coach Gautam Gambhir revealed his all-time India XI, surprising many by leaving out some of the nation’s top cricketing talents. Despite having only eleven spots to fill, Gambhir made some tough calls, notably excluding current ODI captain Rohit Sharma and star pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
In a conversation with Sportskeeda, Gambhir selected himself and Virender Sehwag as the opening pair, opting to leave out Rohit Sharma, widely regarded as one of the finest openers in the history of the game. At No. 3, Gambhir chose Rahul Dravid, the man he replaced as head coach of the Indian cricket team.
Gambhir’s list continued with cricket legends, selecting Sachin Tendulkar at No. 4 and modern cricket star Virat Kohli at No. 5. Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni filled the No. 6 and No. 7 positions, respectively, forming a solid middle order. Notably, former captain Sourav Ganguly did not make the cut in Gambhir’s lineup.
For the spin-bowling department, Gambhir went with Anil Kumble at No. 8 and Ravichandran Ashwin at No. 9, leaving out Harbhajan Singh. In the pace attack, Gambhir picked Irfan Pathan and Zaheer Khan, surprisingly overlooking Jasprit Bumrah, who is often considered India’s finest seam bowler.
Known for his straightforward opinions, Gambhir’s choices sparked debates among fans and cricket experts, as many questioned the exclusion of players like Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah.
Gambhir’s All-Time XI For India: Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni (wk), Anil Kumble, Ravichandran Ashwin, Irfan Pathan, Zaheer Khan.
