In a recent development, Gautam Gambhir expressed his desire to keep his relationship with Virat Kohli private, emphasizing that their connection is not meant to be publicized for entertainment.
In the recently concluded 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli, who had several heated meetings in the past, surprised fans by greeting each other warmly and even sharing a hug.
Gambhir returned to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a mentor for IPL 2024 and played a crucial role in helping the team win their third title, ending a 10-year wait. Meanwhile, Kohli, who finished as the leading run-getter for the second time in an IPL season, helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) reach the playoffs after a terrible start.
After the reverse fixture between KKR and RCB at the Eden Gardens, which KKR won by just one run, both players embraced warmly, and fans were delighted to see the two Indian cricket icons bury the hatchet.
In a recent interview, Gambhir explained that both he and Kohli aim to express themselves and win games for their teams. He emphasised that their relationship is private and not something the public needs to know about.
“The perception is far away from reality. My relationship with Virat Kohli is something this country doesn’t need to know. He has as much right as I do to express himself and help our respective teams win. Our relationship is not to give masala to the public,” Gambhir told Sportskeeda. Further, Gambhir also praised Kohli, acknowledging the former RCB skipper’s impressive six-hitting ability.
Notably, in an earlier interview, Kohli mentioned that some people were not happy with his reconciliation with Gambhir. “People are very disappointed with my behaviour. I hugged Naveen, and then the other day, Gauti bhai (Gautam Gambhir) came and hugged me. Your masala is over, so you’re booing. We’re not kids anymore,” Kohli said at an event organised by Asian Paints.
