Glenn Maxwell humorously commented on the debate regarding Virat Kohli’s spot in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Virat Kohli’s record-breaking eighth IPL century failed to end concerns around his selection for the upcoming T20 World Cup. In fact, his leading the IPL run-scorers list after scoring 316 runs in five innings and maintaining a strike rate of 146.30 has led to discussions as well. However, Maxwell recently shared a lighthearted approach to the debate surrounding Kohli’s place in the playing XI.

While talking to ESPN, Maxwell remarked, “Virat Kohli is the most clutch player I have ever played against. The innings he played against us in Mohali during the 2016 T20 World Cup are still the best innings I have ever seen played against me. His awareness of what he needs to do to win the game is just phenomenal,” as quoted by the Times of India.

While praising Kohli’s phenomenal form, Maxwell humorously commented, “I hope India doesn’t pick him for the T20 World Cup because it will be great to not come up against him,” underscoring their friendly relations in the RCB camp.

Furthermore, Maxwell believes the scrutiny regarding Kohli’s place in the T20 World Cup squad is unsurprising given India’s vast cricket talent pool. “It’s not surprising because there are 1.5 billion people in India, and I reckon half of them are unbelievable cricketers in this country (laughs). It’s a hard team to get into. You look at India’s top T20 players, who are all playing in this tournament (IPL 2024). They are phenomenal players, and there should be heat on every player,” concluded Maxwell.

However, Maxwell himself has been in a slump in IPL 2024 and did not fetch good runs during the five matches he has played for RCB. He will look forward to a comeback soon during the remainder of the tournament.
