Glenn McGrath named Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Yuvraj Singh as his top 5 Indian ODI batters, placing Rohit ahead of Tendulkar.
Former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath has ranked Rohit Sharma ahead of Sachin Tendulkar in his list of India’s top 5 ODI batters of all time, while leaving out Virender Sehwag. Rohit, who made his ODI debut against Ireland in 2007, has amassed 11,370 runs in 276 matches. Tendulkar, on the other hand, retired with 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs, including over 3,000 runs against Australia.
McGrath placed Virat Kohli at the top of his list, followed by Rohit, Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Yuvraj Singh. He praised Rohit’s consistency and record-breaking double centuries, highlighting his remarkable 264-run knock as one of ODI cricket’s finest achievements.
“My No. 2 (is) Rohit Sharma. His stats in one-day cricket and the way he played the game (is) unbelievable. Three double hundreds and the highest score of 264 is just unheard of. Unbelievable. 276 matches over 11,000 runs. Probably a little bit unfortunately earmarked as a one-day specialist, his stats at Test cricket should have been better because he was a class player. I would put him at No. 2, and at No. 1, it’s hard to go past Virat Kohli,” McGrath said on the Fast Bowling Cartel podcast.
“You look at the runs he scored, the average, and the strike rate – unbelievable. We saw that the other night,” he added.
Notably, in the recent three-match series, Rohit posted scores of 8, 73, and 121, emerging as the top run-getter and earning the Player of the Series award. During his 121 at the SCG on October 25, he also became the first player to score 1000 runs in India-Australia ODIs in Australia and the second batter overall to cross 2500 runs against them.
