Harbhajan Singh highlighted the challenge India will face against Pakistan, citing the infrequent matches between the two countries as a factor making it difficult to assess their strengths and weaknesses.
Harbhajan Singh, former off-spinner and member of the 2007 Men’s T20 World Cup winning team, anticipates a challenging encounter for India against Pakistan in the upcoming Men’s T20 World Cup, given the infrequent matches between the two nations. With less than a month remaining until their Group A clash on June 9 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, excitement builds for this highly-anticipated fixture.
Despite India’s dominance in past T20 World Cup meetings, including a thrilling victory in 2022, Harbhajan acknowledged the unpredictability of matches against Pakistan. He emphasized the importance of Indian management tracking the strengths and weaknesses of Pakistani players, especially in bowling, to ensure preparedness for the upcoming clash.
“At the end of the day, playing against Pakistan is always (tricky) as both countries do not play much against each other. We do not know much about their strong and weak zones but the Indian management keeps track of every player and their strong and weak zones,” Harbhajan said when speaking in the Star Sports Press Room show.
“In the bowling department too, Pakistan bowlers keep themselves mentally and physically strong. These aspects will be taken care of by the Indian team. These things will come into play when both sides will battle it out on the field,” he added.

Harbhajan also stressed India’s focus on understanding their own game and adapting to on-field conditions, rather than solely relying on knowledge about their opponents. Underlining the importance of in-the-moment decision-making, he illustrated how even a batsman as skilled as Virat Kohli can be strategically targeted based on conditions. According to Harbhajan, success hinges on players’ awareness of their strengths and the ability to adjust tactics accordingly.
The 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup will take place in six West Indies venues and three USA stadiums. Teams will be split into four groups of five in the initial round, with the top two from each advancing to the Super Eight. Semifinals will be held in Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago, leading to the final in Barbados on June 29.
