Harbhajan Singh is optimistic about Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer finding their form in the third Test against England in Rajkot, describing the venue as a batting paradise.
In anticipation of the upcoming test on February 15th in Rajkot, former cricketer Harbhajan Singh has backed Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer for finding their form. Rohit and Shreyas have failed to score a single half-century in the ongoing test series, managing scores of 104 and 90 across four innings, respectively. The duo also failed to make an impact in the South Africa tests, with Rohit scoring 60 and Iyer, 41.
While speaking on his YouTube channel, Harbhajan explained the importance of batters performing, especially in the absence of Virat Kohli. He also expressed optimism about Rohit and Iyer being able to pull up their performances, describing the Rajkot pitch as a ‘batter’s paradise’.
“Hopefully, Rohit Sharma will score runs. He hasn’t scored runs. Rajkot is a batting paradise in India. So, I hope that there won’t be amendments to the pitch. I hope Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer score because Virat Kohli may or may not play. Cricket never waits for anyone. If Virat was available or not, we would have still won. Hopefully, he might return,” Harbhajan said.
“There are a lot of positives. Yashasvi Jaiswal has scored a double-century. Very important for a youngster. When you score runs, you gain confidence. Shubman Gill has also come back to form. He also scored a century. Talking of Shreyas Iyer, hopefully, he might also return to form provided that the wicket is good,” he added.
The former bowler also commented on Rajat Patidar cementing his spot in the upcoming test, ahead of Sarfaraz Khan. Harbhajan expressed that Patidatr would get a chance to feature in the third test too, and Sarfaraz will have to wait for his debut as the young team and combination look set.
Sarfaraz was introduced into the squad when KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja were ruled out due to injuries. His record showcases a splendid 3912 runs in 66 innings at an average of 69.85, including 14 tons and 11 half-centuries.
