After suffering their 9th defeat in IPL 2024 against KKR, Hardik Pandya acknowledged the team’s batting failure, expressing disappointment over the lack of consistent good cricket throughout the season.
Mumbai Indians, already out of the IPL 2024 playoffs contention, faced another setback as Kolkata Knight Riders defeated them by 18 runs in a rain-curtailed match at Eden Gardens. Despite a promising start by Ishan Kishan, MI’s batting faltered, with key players like Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya struggling to make an impact.
Reflecting on the loss, Pandya lamented the batting unit’s inability to capitalize on the foundation laid, attributing the defeat to a lack of momentum. He emphasized the importance of enjoying the game and playing good cricket, acknowledging that MI had not performed up to expectations throughout the season.
“As a batting unit, the foundation was there but we could not capitalize after that and keep the momentum up. The wicket was a little up and down and a little tacky so momentum was very important. I think it was a par score, given the conditions, felt that the bowlers did well. Every ball that came back from the boundary came back wet. The bowlers made sure they kept taking wickets,” Pandya said at the post-match presentation.
“Just to go and enjoy as much as we can and play good cricket, that’s been my motto from the start. I don’t think we’ve played enough good cricket this season,” he added.

After their defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians will have a significant break before their final match of the season against Lucknow Super Giants next Friday.
Meanwhile, KKR secured their spot in the playoffs with two rounds remaining, leading the standings with 18 points. This marks their first playoff appearance since 2021.
