Sunil Gavaskar suggested the addition of Hardik Pandya to India’s Test squad, remarking that he could be a key factor in boosting India’s strength with the bat and the ball.
Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar believes all-rounder Hardik Pandya can be a crucial factor in India’s quest for their first World Test Championship (WTC) title. Pandya, who recently played a starring role in India’s T20 World Cup victory, has a promising Test career on hold due to injuries. Despite only playing 11 Tests, he impressed with 532 runs and 17 wickets, including a century.
Speaking to Revsportz, Sunil Gavaskar urged the Indian team management to convince Pandya of a Test return. “Absolutely, they can win the WTC. In the next two months, there should be an attempt to convince Hardik Pandya to play Test cricket. If he bowls ten overs a day and contributes with the bat, this Indian team could become invincible,” suggested Gavaskar.
Gavaskar believes a fit Pandya, capable of bowling and batting consistently, would significantly boost India’s chances. He envisions a team capable of beating Australia in Australia and ultimately conquering the WTC trophy.
Notably, India, under captain Rohit Sharma, has reached the WTC final twice but fell short on both occasions. Gavaskar also praised Sharma’s leadership style, comparing him to MS Dhoni.

“There are some captains for whom captaincy is a pleasure. Rohit and MS Dhoni belong to that category. Rohit is relaxed and enjoys captaincy, and that makes him the leader he is. I love the way he leads his team and his body language,” said Gavaskar of Rohit.
Meanwhile, India’s young cricketers have been on their T20I series with Zimbabwe, with both teams having 1-1 point after two matches. The third match will be played on July 10th in Harare, with both nations eyeing a series win.
