Hardik Pandya expressed excitement for the India-Pakistan T20 World Cup clash but stressed the importance of team discipline and focus.
Hardik Pandya, India’s star all-rounder, has acknowledged the excitement surrounding the upcoming T20 World Cup match against arch-rivals Pakistan but insisted on maintaining discipline and focus for the team’s objectives.
The marquee clash, scheduled for June 9th at the Nassau County International Stadium, promises to be a historic encounter, being the first time played in the Americas. “This is not a fight; this is going to be history,” Pandya remarked to Star Sports.
Pandya, known for his skills in high-pressure situations, is likely to play a pivotal role in India’s title aspirations. “Standing in big games is very exciting for me. I find it extra special, and Pakistan has been one team where I have been very fortunate; I have been able to do well in a lot of games,” added Pandya.

However, Pandya emphasised the importance of discipline amidst the inevitable hype. “India-Pakistan has always been very exciting, with a lot of cheer and buzz, a lot of emotion, and a lot of excitement. But at the same time, I hope we will be disciplined in that game; one goal as a group is to go and kind of hunt,” concluded the vice-captain.
This focus is crucial as both teams approach the match with contrasting starts. India secured a dominant victory over Ireland in their opening match, while Pakistan suffered a shocking defeat to co-hosts the USA in a Super Over thriller. A win in this high-profile encounter will significantly boost either team’s chances of securing the T20 World Cup title.
