Delhi Capitals have reportedly lost Harry Brook for IPL 2024 due to personal reasons; eyes Australian sensation Jake Fraser-McGurk as a replacement.
Just days before the IPL 2024 kicks off, Delhi Capitals suffered a major blow as Harry Brook, their four crore signing, reportedly withdrew due to personal reasons. This isn’t the first time Brook has skipped commitments, having previously opted out of the Test series against India. The sudden withdrawal adds to a growing trend among English cricketers, leaving franchises in a bind.
The English Cricket Board has urged privacy for Brook and his family amidst the situation. IPL franchises are now urging the BCCI for clarity and action on this concerning trend, emphasizing the need for players to honor their commitments after being signed in auctions.
“Once players register for the auction, they should honor their commitment. Reneging on it is unprofessional, and the BCCI should address this,” said a franchise official as quoted by Cricbuzz.
Australian opener Jake Fraser-McGurk is a potential replacement for Harry Brook at Delhi Capitals, according to Code Sports. The 21-year-old has impressed with T20I and ODI call-ups, notably smashing a record-breaking 29-ball century in List A cricket.
In a recurring trend, cricketers like Alex Hales, Jason Roy, and Mitchell Starc have backed out of IPL commitments at the last minute, raising concerns about their reliability.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals are silent on Harry Brook’s withdrawal, adding to their concerns. Brook’s underwhelming performance in the previous IPL season with Sunrisers Hyderabad, despite high expectations, led to his release before this year’s auction.
