All-rounder Mitchell Marsh, overcome with emotion, clinched the Allan Border Medal for 2024 in his first-ever win and shared a lighthearted moment about this unexpected victory in his speech.
In a remarkable comeback, Mitchell Marsh, at 32, secured the Allan Border Medal for 2024, marking a significant achievement in Australian cricket. His versatility shone through with victories in the World Cup, a notable Ashes century, and leadership of the national T20 side.
Surpassing competitors like Pat Cummins and Steve Smith, Marsh, with a touch of humor, admitted his surprise at the win, hoping it won’t be as peculiar a memory as the COVID era. Emotional during his acceptance, Marsh also revealed confiding in his wife about his aspirations for another chance on the Test side
“I really hadn’t thought about it until a few of the boys started getting stuck into me that they thought I was going to win it, and then I started thinking maybe I’m a chance. I had four beers at lunch so had better stop there. And now I’m sort of hoping that me winning this is not like COVID and we’ll look back in three years time and go, that was a weird time,” Marsh quipped.
"I'm a bit fat at times and I love a beer…"
