Shashank Singh expressed his thoughts after his unbeaten 61 (29) that helped PBKS chase down a target of 200 runs against GT.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Shashank Singh revealed the confident mindset behind his heroic performance in their thrilling three-wicket victory over the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024. Named Player of the Match for his unbeaten knock of 61 runs off just 29 balls, Singh said he approaches every batting opportunity believing he is the best player on the field.
The 32-year-old’s crucial knock, featuring six fours and four sixes, led the Punjab Kings to a come-from-behind victory while chasing a challenging target. The Kings found themselves in a precarious position at one stage, having lost five wickets for just 111 runs. However, Singh partnered with Impact Player Ashutosh Sharma and shifted the momentum decisively in Punjab’s favour.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Singh credited his positive attitude for his ability to perform under pressure. “They (the senior players) are the legends of the game, but when I go to bat, I think I am the best; I couldn’t get a lot of matches before. Here, the owners and coaching staff backed me. I was very confident,” the batter was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
The magnitude of his performance was not lost on Singh, who admitted the win was still sinking in. “(Win) is still trying to sink in. I visualised all these things, but when they turned into reality, I was proud of the effort. The coach told me to react to the ball. The wicket is very good, and the bounce was good. 200 scored by both teams, so the wicket was fantastic,” Shashank added.
Notably, skipper Shikhar Dhawan echoed the praise for Singh, commending his ability to handle pressure and deliver a match-winning knock. “Shashank came and played a tremendous knock. He timed the ball so nicely; it looked effortless. He kept his cool and finished the game,” the PBKS captain added.
Though PBKS has won 2 games out of the 4 matches they have played, the team comfortably sits in the fifth position in the IPL table and will be looking forward to bagging their third win against CSK on April 5th.
