Four-fold rise in ICC’s WWC prize pot

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced a massive increase in the prize money for the upcoming Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, confirming a four-fold rise compared to the last edition.
With less than a month to go before the tournament begins in India and Sri Lanka, the ICC revealed that the overall prize pool will stand at $13.88 million (USD). This marks a 297 percent jump from the $3.5 million on offer during the 2022 edition in New Zealand.
The new figure even surpasses the $10 million prize pool of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup held two years ago in India. The announcement reflects the ICC’s ongoing push to grow women’s cricket globally, following its decision to introduce pay parity before the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Winners of the 13th edition of the Women’s Cricket World Cup will receive $4.48 million, which is 239 percent higher than the $1.32 million Australia won in 2022. The runners-up will take home $2.24 million, a sharp increase of 273 percent from the $600,000 received by England three years ago.

The two losing semi-finalists will earn $1.12 million each, compared to $300,000 in the previous edition. Teams participating in the group stage are guaranteed $250,000, with an additional $34,314 awarded for each group-stage win. The teams finishing fifth and sixth will pocket $700,000 each, while the seventh and eighth-placed sides will earn $280,000 each.
Calling it a defining moment, ICC Chairman Jay Shah said, “This announcement marks a defining milestone in the journey of women’s cricket. This four-fold increase in prize money is a landmark moment for women’s cricket and reflects our clear commitment to its long-term growth. Our message is simple, women cricketers must know they will be treated on par with men if they choose this sport professionally.”
