The ICC fined Harmanpreet Kaur’s Indian team five percent of their match fees for bowling their overs too slowly in the Women’s World Cup match against Australia.

The ICC penalised the Indian women’s cricket team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, for a slow over-rate during their World Cup 2025 group match against Australia in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. India fell one over short of the required rate after accounting for time allowances.

As a result, the team incurred a 5% deduction from their match fee under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offences. The sanction was issued by match referee Michell Periera from the Emirates ICC International Panel, following reports from the on-field and third umpires. Harmanpreet Kaur accepted the penalty, thereby avoiding a formal hearing.

In the match, Australia chased down a record target to win by three wickets in Visakhapatnam. Alyssa Healy led the charge with a 142 off 107 balls, guiding Australia to 331/7 in 49 overs – the highest-ever successful chase in World Cup history. The knock was her third World Cup hundred and first ODI century since January 2025.

With two consecutive losses, India now sit fifth on the points table. They will look to come back to winning ways when they take on England in their next league match at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on October 19.
