The UAE became the 20th and final team to qualify for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 after defeating Japan in the Asia–EAP Qualifier.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has become the final team to qualify for the Men’s ICC T20 World Cup 2026, securing the 20th spot. The tournament will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 6 to March 7.

Led by Muhammad Waseem, the UAE sealed qualification with a decisive win over Japan in the Asia/East Asia-Pacific (EAP) Qualifier held in Oman. Nepal and Oman had already secured top-three finishes earlier in the week. The 2026 edition will feature 20 teams for the second consecutive time, supporting the ICC’s aim to expand cricket globally and strengthen competition across regions.

Japan struggled early, losing three wickets inside the Powerplay, including a direct-hit run-out of Abhishek Anand and two key dismissals by Haider Ali, who finished with 3/12 in three overs. Wataru Miyauchi’s unbeaten 45 off 32 balls provided some resistance, but Japan managed only 116.

Chasing the total, UAE’s captain Muhammad Waseem and Alishan Sharafu raced to 36/0 within three overs. Waseem scored 42 off 26 balls, and Sharafu made 46 off 27, completing the chase in 13 overs. The win eliminated Japan, Qatar, and Samoa from contention, finalizing UAE’s qualification. The 2026 T20 World Cup will feature 20 teams, including hosts India and Sri Lanka, and top finishers from the 2024 edition.
