Imad Wasim admitted he failed to execute his plans during Pakistan’s narrow T20 World Cup loss to India, scoring only 15 runs off 23 balls, and expressed regret for not finishing the match.

Pakistan’s T20 World Cup campaign ended in disappointment after failing to progress beyond the group stage. Imad Wasim, who came out of retirement for the tournament, shouldered some of the blame for the team’s exit.

During a crucial run chase against India, Wasim, known for his composure under pressure, fell short of expectations. Despite needing a run-a-ball until the 15th over, he managed only 15 runs off 23 deliveries, leaving Pakistan with an achievable target out of reach.

Reflecting on the match, Wasim admitted he had planned to take the game deep but failed to execute it, something he deeply regrets. He acknowledged the difficulty of the wicket and lamented his inability to hit boundaries that could have changed the game’s outcome.

“I let down because usually when I go in this situation, I am very calm and finish the job. And this was my job to finish which I couldn’t do. I will regret this and I still regret it. But this is life. Sometimes you make mistakes. But life is like that; sometimes you make mistakes. So, you can say that this was a phase in my life that I unfortunately could not achieve. I will regret it, but my execution was not good,” Wasim said.

Reflecting on Pakistan’s disappointing campaign, Wasim described it as the “lowest point” in their cricketing history. He expressed frustration that Pakistan, once a strong force in T20 cricket, now finds themselves regressing instead of progressing.

“This is the lowest point. You can’t go any lower than this. That’s the fact. We used to rule in T20 cricket. I think we have moved back a little now. Maybe our mindset [needs a change] – in all three areas. I won’t say any one area. If you change the mind of the player, you can achieve things beyond your limits. I always believe in this,” he concluded.
