India secured their place in the Super-8 stage of the T20 World Cup with a hard-fought victory over the USA, marking their third consecutive win.

Despite a challenging start, where Virat Kohli was dismissed for a golden duck and captain Rohit Sharma fell cheaply, India managed to chase down the target of 111 and win by 7 wickets. This achievement also marked the highest successful chase at this ground in the tournament.

After the opening pair fell cheaply, Rishabh Pant(18)and Suryakumar Yadav(50*) formed a crucial partnership to stabilize the innings. After Pant’s dismissal, Yadav continued to anchor the innings while Shivam Dube(31*), despite struggling, provided valuable support. Yadav capitalized on a dropped catch to score an unbeaten half-century, while Dube hit the winning run.

Earlier, India had opted to bowl first against Aaron Jones’ USA in their match at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York. Arshdeep Singh led the attack, claiming 4 wickets as India limited the USA to 110/8. Nitish Kumar was the top scorer for the USA with 27 runs, while Hardik Pandya contributed with 2 crucial wickets for India.

In response, Saurabh Netravalkar gave the USA a dream start by dismissing Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma early, putting India under pressure. The bowlers managed to restrict runs effectively, keeping India on their toes. Ali Khan’s brilliant delivery took out Rishabh Pant, further tightening the contest.

However, a crucial dropped catch by Netravalkar, which allowed Suryakumar Yadav to continue, proved costly. Additionally, the USA faced a setback with a five-run penalty, which dampened their morale. Ultimately, the Indian batters capitalized on these opportunities, securing a 7-wicket win (10 balls left).
