Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes India are well-placed to win the Edgbaston Test and level the series 1-1.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan has backed India to win the second Test at Edgbaston after gaining a commanding 244-run lead by stumps on Day 3. Trailing 0-1 in the series, India are well-positioned to level it ahead of the final Test at Lord’s.
The visitors posted 587 in the first innings, led by Shubman Gill’s 269. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja added crucial contributions of 87 and 89.
Vaughan praised India’s intensity over the first three days and suggested the team could aim for a target near 500. He feels India should use the fourth day to extend the lead and try to remove key English batters before Day 5.
“India should win this game, it should be 1-1 going to Lord’s. Bumrah will come back into the side, probably at the expense of Prasidh Krishna. If India play the same intense cricket they have done for three days, if they can carry on that mindset, they should ask enough questions of England this week to level the series,” Vaughan said to Cricbuzz.
Given the highest successful chase in Test history is below 420, the former cricketer believes India hold a clear edge heading into the final two days.

“Look, no one has ever chased over 420, so you look at 450 as your first banker, but I think Shubman will want to have 500. I was impressed by the way India batted late today, where they went out and played their shots and they got off to a flying start,” he continued.
“In my mind, as a captain, I would not want to be going into Day 5 with no wickets down for England. I would want to give myself enough time tomorrow night to get England 2-3 wickets down,” Vaughan concluded.
