As per reports, the Indian cricket team will likely have just one warm-up match before the T20 World Cup 2024.
The Indian cricket team is expected to play only one warm-up match before their opening fixture in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. This comes in contrast to England and Pakistan, who will reportedly have two practice games each.
The reasoning behind the different schedules lies in the timing of these teams’ commitments before the World Cup. England and Pakistan are slated to conclude a bilateral series on May 30th, leaving them with limited time for warm-ups.
Meanwhile, according to a report in Cricbuzz, the BCCI requested both warm-up matches to be held in New York City to minimize travel fatigue for Indian players coming off the IPL, which ends on May 26th. However, organizers reportedly offered matches in separate cities – New York and Florida.
India’s World Cup campaign begins on June 5th against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. They are placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, Ireland, USA, and Canada. Three of their four group matches, including the high-profile clash with Pakistan on June 9th, will be played in New York. Their final group stage fixture against Canada is scheduled for June 15th in Florida.
In a separate development, the ICC has reportedly tweaked playing conditions for the second T20 World Cup semi-final. Originally, all knockout matches had a reserve day. However, to avoid a tight schedule between the second semi-final and the final, the ICC, along with co-hosts the West Indies, have decided to eliminate the reserve day for the second semi-final. Instead, an additional 250 minutes (4 hours and 10 minutes) will be allotted to the match to account for rain interruptions and ensure a result.
The first semi-final will be played in Trinidad on June 26th, with a reserve day on June 27th. The second semi-final will be held on June 27th at Providence Stadium in Guyana, followed by the final on June 29th, also in Guyana.
