The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 schedule, featuring a record eight teams, with India set to face UAE in the opening match.
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) revealed that India will kick off their campaign against UAE in the Women’s Asia Cup 2024, as part of the tournament fixtures announced on Tuesday, March 26. Scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka starting from July 19, the event will feature eight teams, a notable increase from the previous seven. All matches will take place in Dambulla.
ACC emphasized the significance of inclusivity and equality by maintaining all-female referees and umpires, aligning with their vision. The tournament precedes the T20 World Cup 2024, slated for September-October in Bangladesh.
“The increased participation promises to make this tournament even more competitive and thrilling for cricket fans across the region. In line with the ACC’s vision for inclusivity and equality in cricket, the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 will continue the tradition of having all female referees and umpires, following the successful implementation of the same in the previous edition,” the ACC said in a statement.
The eight teams are split into two groups: Group A includes India, Pakistan, UAE, and Nepal, while Group B comprises Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Thailand. India, the defending champions, kick-off against UAE and face Pakistan and Nepal subsequently.
