Mohammed Kaif stated that India will miss Washington Sundar’s all-round abilities in the Asia Cup since the team will have fewer bowling and batting options.
Former cricketer Mohammed Kaif believes India will miss Washington Sundar’s all-round skills in the upcoming Asia Cup. He explained that having three all-rounders was key to India’s T20 World Cup win last year. The team, led by Rohit Sharma, included Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Hardik Pandya, which provided depth in both batting and bowling.
India’s win in Barbados ended a long wait for a world title. Now, with only two all-rounders—Axar and Hardik—the team faces a challenge in finding the right balance. The Asia Cup, scheduled in September in the UAE, will be India’s first major T20 event since the World Cup. Kaif feels the new squad will need to work hard to build a strong combination without Sundar’s versatility.
“Rohit’s team won the T20 World Cup with 3 all-rounders – Axar, Jadeja, Hardik – and that meant 6 proper bowling options and batting till 8. At the Asia Cup, with only 2 genuine all-rounders – Hardik and Axar. – India will have to find a new winning combination. Washington Sundar will be missed,” Kaif tweeted.

Notably, Sundar has been part of India’s plans for some time but missed out on the final squad. His last T20 International appearance came earlier this year against England in Rajkot.
