The Indian cricket team has phased into the Gautam Gambhir era, and in a recent media interaction, captain Rohit Sharma addressed how the changes have been in the team.
With Gautam Gambhir taking over from Rahul Dravid as head coach of the Indian cricket team, there has been considerable discussion about the change in coaching styles. Indian captain Rohit Sharma recently shared insights into this transition and how it has impacted the team.
Rohit, known for his leadership and deep understanding of the game, spoke about the distinct approaches of Gambhir and Dravid. “Obviously, Rahul bhai, Vikram Rathour (former batting coach), and Paras Mhambrey (former bowling coach) had a different approach, and it’s only natural for a new support staff to bring in fresh perspectives. But from the matches we played in Sri Lanka with the new team, they seemed sensible and quick to understand the dynamics of the squad,” Rohit said as quoted by News18.
Rohit added that he has known Gambhir and assistant coach Abhishek Nayar for a long time, acknowledging that every coach brings a unique style. “I’ve worked with many different coaches over my 17-year career, and each one has their own perspective. It’s important to adapt to those differences,” Rohit explained.
‘Gautam Gambhir Brings In a Shift In Mindset’, Says Rohit
Gambhir, known for his aggressive and no-nonsense attitude, brings a different energy to the team. According to Rohit, this change is not just about new tactics but also a shift in mindset. “With Gambhir, there’s an immediate sense of urgency and aggression in our approach,” Rohit noted. This was evident in the team’s recent games, where a more attacking strategy, particularly in batting, was adopted.

Gambhir’s coaching also emphasizes individual player responsibility, with Rohit explaining, “There’s a lot more onus on each player to think like a leader, to make decisions on the field that could define the game’s outcome.” This method could help develop players capable of handling high-pressure situations, such as those in knockout stages of tournaments.
