Former Indian pacer Praveen Kumar recalled an incident in Australia where he, along with Rohit Sharma and Manoj Tiwary, faced verbal abuse from Indian fans at the nets in Melbourne.
Skipper Rohit Sharma faced a challenging moment in Australia when he encountered verbal abuse from Indian fans during a net session. Former India pacer Praveen Kumar, reminiscing about the incident, disclosed that he, Rohit Sharma, and Manoj Tiwary were at the nets in Melbourne when their own countrymen targeted Rohit with offensive remarks. The unexpected situation led Rohit to respond, and Praveen Kumar joined in, highlighting the disheartening reality that even their own supporters were responsible for the abuse.
“I have never got into a fight with anyone. We three were there me, Rohit Sharma and Manoj Tiwary. We were at the nets. I think it was in Melbourne. Our own abuse us. They were Indian fans who were abusing Rohit Sharma. His patience ended and he shot back at them and I joined. I am telling you that it is our own who abuse us,” Praveen Kumar said on The Lallantop.
Speaking about his camaraderie with Virat Kohli, Praveen Kumar praised the Indian skipper’s dedication to cricket, attributing Kohli’s success to his focus on scoring runs, maintaining fitness, and following a proper diet.
Kumar also showered praise on the legendary MS Dhoni, emphasizing Dhoni’s unparalleled leadership skills.
“Mahi Bhai Ka Koi Jawaab Nahi. He knew how to use a player and when to use them,” said Kumar, adding, “he used to set the field and ask the bowler to bowl. And that’s what a good captain is, who gives the ball to the bowler and only asks to bowl, then it is up to the bowler to understand what he has to bowl,” he added.
Rohit is set to make his comeback to India’s T20I team and is scheduled to play against Afghanistan in the first T20I in Mohali on January 11 as skipper. Although Kohli has been included in the squad, the former captain will be absent for the opening match of the three-match series due to personal reasons.
