Shikhar Dhawan expressed surprise at being excluded from the Asian Games after already missing out on the 2023 World Cup, but he took the setback in a positive stride.
Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan expressed surprise at his exclusion from the Asian Games, having already missed the Men in Blue’s 2023 World Cup plans. The veteran opener, taken aback by the news, responded gracefully to the setback. He acknowledged the selectors’ preference for younger talent, accepting the decision with a positive outlook.
Speaking to the Times Of India, Dhawan shared his initial shock at not being in the Asian Games squad, realizing the selectors had a different strategy. Despite the disappointment, he emphasized the importance of accepting such decisions in the world of cricket.
“When my name was not there (for Asian Games), I was a bit shocked. But, then, I was like they have a different thought process, you just have to accept it. I have not spoken to any selector (about my future). I keep going to NCA. I enjoy my time there. The facilities are great. NCA has shaped my career, and I am grateful for it,” Dhawan said.
Furthermore, Dhawan, reflecting on his cricket journey, considers receiving the Arjuna Award in 2021 as the pinnacle of his professional career. Grateful for the honor, Dhawan expressed appreciation for everyone who contributed to his success – coaches, medical and support staff, the BCCI, teammates, family, and friends. Acknowledging the collective effort, he emphasized the award’s importance, deeming it the standout moment in his cricketing career and extending thanks to all who supported him along the way.
