Gujarat Giants suffered a blow as batter Harleen Deol was ruled out of WPL 2024 with a knee injury, with Bharti Fulmali replacing her in the squad.
The Gujarat Giants’ Women’s Premier League (WPL) campaign has suffered a significant blow as batter Harleen Deol has been ruled out of the tournament due to a knee injury.
Deol sustained the injury while fielding as sweeper cover in the first over of the Giants’ match against the UP Warriorz in Bengaluru. While attempting to intercept a ball, she moved to her right but ended up grabbing her left knee in pain. The 25-year-old was forced to limp off the field and hasn’t featured since.
This is also the fourth time the Giants have lost a significant player in the tournament. Before the tournament, uncapped fast bowler Kashvee Gautam was sidelined, while Lauren Cheatle withdrew after a medical procedure. Further, vice-captain Sneh Rana has missed the last two matches.
Gujarat has replaced Deol with batter Bharti Fulmali. Fulmali, who is 29 years old and has previously represented India in two T20Is in 2019, will be joining the team for the remaining matches.
Despite the injury woes, the Giants managed to secure their first win of the WPL in their last outing, defeating the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 19 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. This win provided a much-needed boost for the team, which currently sits at the bottom of the points table.
Gujrat Giants will next face off against Mumbai Indians on March 9th and a win will ensure them climbing the rankings table.
