Delhi Capitals put an end to their losing streak by convincingly defeating Lucknow Super Giants with a six-wicket victory with 11 balls to spare on Friday, April 12th.
Lucknow Super Giants initially seemed set to control the chase against Delhi Capitals after the powerplay, but visiting captain Rishabh Pant and debutant Jake Fraser-McGurk turned the tables. Fraser-McGurk marked his IPL debut with a remarkable 31-ball half-century.
Earlier, LSG captain KL Rahul elected to bat first upon winning the toss. Despite Quinton de Kock’s early dismissal, Rahul’s strong performance during the powerplay provided a solid foundation. However, Kuldeep Yadav’s exceptional spell in the eighth over derailed LSG’s momentum, claiming two wickets, including the in-form Nicholas Pooran for a golden duck. Yadav further struck by dismissing Rahul for 39 off 22 in the following over. While Delhi Capitals dominated the middle overs, LSG’s resurgence came in the death overs courtesy of Ayush Badoni, who crafted a timely half-century off 31 balls.
Lucknow struggled to build a competitive total, with Ravi Bishnoi being the sole bowler making an impact amid leaky runs from others. Initially at 100 for 7, reaching even 120 seemed daunting. However, Ayush Badoni and Arshad Khan’s partnership added crucial runs, boosting Lucknow’s total to 167/7.
Despite gaining momentum, their bowlers failed to capitalize in the first six overs. While Delhi conceded some runs towards the end, their batters ensured the 6-wicket victory with 11 balls to spare. Delhi Capitals clinched vital points, capitalizing on Lucknow’s missed opportunities.
