Mayank Yadav’s three-wicket haul propelled Lucknow Super Giants to a 28-run victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2024, supported by de Kock’s strong start and Nicholas Pooran’s late blitz.
In a gripping contest, Nicholas Pooran’s breathtaking catch concluded the match as Lucknow Super Giants secured their second consecutive victory, extending their winning streak. The match witnessed Bengaluru’s missed opportunities, particularly dropping crucial catches of Quinton de Kock and Nicholas Pooran, proving costly.
Earlier, RCB elected to bowl after winning the toss. Lucknow Super Giants dominated most of their innings against RCB’s bowlers, but RCB staged a comeback in the final overs. Quinton de Kock’s explosive 81 off 56 balls was pivotal until he was dismissed by Reece Topley in the 17th over. However, LSG’s run rate declined notably between the 15th and 18th overs. Nicholas Pooran’s late flourish, scoring an unbeaten 40 off 21 deliveries, boosted LSG’s total to 181/5 in their allotted 20 overs.
Chasing 182 on a challenging surface proved tricky for Bengaluru. Despite a solid start from their openers, the team struggled to capitalize as wickets fell at regular intervals, reaching 63/4 by the 10th over. Mayank Dagar’s exceptional bowling spell, yielding two wickets for just three runs in three overs, added pressure.
Although Bengaluru staged a brief fightback, it wasn’t sufficient. Mahipal Lomror’s efforts to keep his team afloat with aggressive strokes weren’t enough as Lucknow’s bowling remained impressive. Despite a momentary setback when Tash Thakur conceded runs in the death overs, he bounced back with a crucial wicket.
Notably, M. Siddharth’s impactful spell with the new ball, including the dismissal of Virat Kohli, initiated Bengaluru’s collapse. Throughout, Mayank Dagar continued to shine, further solidifying Lucknow’s dominance with the ball.
