The Rajasthan Royals secured a comfortable six-wicket victory, chasing down the 184-run target with five balls to spare.
Despite seeing some record-breaking knocks, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru versus the Rajasthan Royals clash on April 6th saw the former’s despair as Faf and Co. could not succeed in bagging their second win of the tournament. The Rajasthan Royals won the toss and decided to bowl first, and after limiting RCB to 183, the men in pink secured a comfortable chase and won the match by 6 wickets.
Putting in to bat first by RR, RCB started steadily with a massive partnership of 125 runs off 84 balls stitched by Virat Kohli and Faf Du Plessis. Though RCB conceived only three wickets, Glenn Maxwell could not recover from his form slump and got bowled by Nandre Burger, scoring just one run off three balls.
RR’s spinner Yuzvendra Chahal impressed by scalping Faf and the IPL debutant Saurav Dilipsingh Chauhan’s wicket. It was Virat Kohli who stood till the end to score an unbeatable 113, crossing the 7500-run mark in the history of the IPL and leading RCB to a total of 183 runs.
In the second inning, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for a duck. However, the inning was revived by a spectacular partnership between Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson. The duo stitched together a crucial 148 runs in 86 balls – the longest partnership in IPL 2024 – putting RR firmly in control. While the skipper contributed a well-made 69, it was Jos Buttler who stole the show with a brilliant century. He finished the chase in style, hitting a six to seal the victory for Rajasthan.
Though RCB bowlers Reece Topley, Yash Dayal, and Mohammed Siraj managed to pick up wickets in the middle overs, it was too late. Rajasthan chased down the target with five balls to spare and climbed to the top of the IPL points table, maintaining their unbeaten run in IPL 2024.
