IPL 2024: Rishabh Pant Fined Again for Consecutive Slow Over-Rate Offence During DC vs KKR Match

DC skipper Rishabh Pant was fined for a slow over-rate offence for the second time this season.

Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during his team’s IPL 2024 match against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday, April 3rd, in Visakhapatnam, marking the second time DC has been penalised for the offence this season.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the fines in a statement released after the match. Pant was hit with a hefty fine of 24 lakh rupees due to it being DC’s second slow over-rate offence of the season. In their previous win against the Chennai Super Kings, DC received their first warning.

The BCCI statement further clarified that the rest of the playing XI, including the Impact Player, were also penalized. Each player received a 6 lakh rupee fine or 25% of their individual match fee, whichever was less.

“Rishabh Pant, the Delhi Capitals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, on April 3. As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pant was fined INR 24 lakhs. The rest of the members of the playing XI, including the impact player, were each individually fined either INR 6 lakhs or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” read the official statement released by BCCI, as quoted by India Today.

The incident adds to the disappointment for DC, who suffered a heavy 106-run defeat to KKR. Despite commendable efforts from Pant and Tristan Stubbs with the bat, Delhi’s batting lineup struggled to attack KKR’s bowling, which put up a challenging total of 272 runs.

Adding to their woes, DC now sits in the ninth position in the IPL points table with an unimpressive three losses out of four matches they have played. The Delhi camp will next face the Mumbai Indians on April 7th at Wankhede Stadium.
