The Titans, led by Shubman Gill, clinched a 3-run win in a nail-biting game, breaking the Royals’ four-match winning streak.
The IPL released a statement addressing the issue, citing it as the Royals’ first offense of the season under the Code of Conduct regarding minimum over rates. The fine was imposed as per IPL regulations.
”Sanju Samson, the Rajasthan Royals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on April 10,” said an IPL statement.
”As it was his team’s first offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Samson was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” the statement added.
On the match front, Samson’s unbeaten 68 off 38 balls powered the Rajasthan Royals to a total of 196 for 3, with Riyan Parag’s contribution of 78 adding to the onslaught. Despite this, Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill’s impressive 72 and a quick-fire innings from Rashid Khan, chased down the target on the last delivery.
Next, the Royals face the Punjab Kings on April 13, while the Titans have a break until April 17, when they clash with the Delhi Capitals. The Punjab Kings will be seeking redemption after a narrow defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad in their previous match.
