Sanju Samson’s unbeaten 82-run innings and impressive bowling, particularly in the death overs by Sandeep Sharma and teammates, led Rajasthan Royals to a 20-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants.
In the IPL 2024 match between RR and LSG, Rajasthan showcased a strong bowling performance, led by Trent Boult’s early breakthroughs and Nandre Burger’s crucial wicket. Despite allowing a significant partnership in the middle, Sandeep Sharma’s exceptional death bowling, including the dismissal of KL Rahul, restricted Lucknow’s scoring. Spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal also contributed with a wicket each.
Earlier, opting to bat first, Rajasthan got off to a quick start with Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal before a solid partnership between skipper Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag propelled them to a strong total of 193.
In the second innings, Lucknow’s innings got off to a rocky start, losing three wickets in the powerplay, putting them in a difficult position. KL Rahul provided stability, while Deepak Hooda added momentum with aggressive strokes. However, both batters fell after the fielding restrictions eased.
The partnership between Rahul and Nicholas Pooran revived their hopes, with both batters looking solid and maintaining a good run rate. Although Rahul reached his fifty, his dismissal shifted the momentum. Pooran also scored a half-century but couldn’t steer Lucknow to victory as they ultimately fell short by 20 runs despite their valiant efforts.
