Mumbai Indians bagged their second win of the tournament as they defeated RCB by 7 wickets.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru versus Mumbai Indians match on April 11th saw the former’s fourth consecutive loss in IPL 2024 as the latter bagged a comfortable seven-wicket victory, chasing a competitive total of 196. It finally seems like MI has bounced back from its early setbacks while RCB is still in the slump.
Put to bat first by MI, Faf and Co. struggled early on, with star batter Virat Kohli dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah for just 3 runs in the third over. Debutant Will Jacks also failed to make a significant impact, departing early in the fourth over. It was then the skipper’s brilliant knock (61 off 40 balls) that kept RCB alive in the game. However, Maxwell continued with his slump and was out for a duck.
Dinesh Karthik came in at number six to save the day with his quickfire 53 runs off 23 balls, which pulled RCB to a challenging total of 196. Speaking of the MI bowlers, Gerald Coetzee and Madhwal were expensive, leaking runs throughout their spells; however, Bumrah overshined and bagged a fifer, conceiving only 21 runs in his four-over spell.
In reply, the Mumbai Indians started strong, with Ishan Kishan posting an impressive 69 off 34 deliveries and Rohit Sharma’s decent knock of 38 runs. However, the chase was put under control by Suryakumar Yadav. The veteran batter played a fiery inning of 52 runs off 19 balls pushing down the required run rate per over.
By the time Yadav was dismissed, the game was out of RCB’s reach. In the 16th over, Hardik Pandya finished off the game by hitting a six. RCB bowlers could not impress with Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj proving to be expensive. They could not contain the onslaught as MI won the game with 27 balls to spare.
