Dinesh Karthik’s last-over boundary secured a four-wicket victory for RCB against Punjab in Match 7 of IPL 2024 at Chinnaswamy, with Virat Kohli’s impressive 77-run innings leading the charge.
In Match 7 of IPL 2024 at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured a thrilling four-wicket victory against Punjab. The chase began briskly with Virat Kohli’s explosive batting, who scored 35 runs off 21 balls despite an early reprieve. However, RCB faced setbacks in the middle overs against Punjab’s Kagiso Rabada and Harpreet Brar.
Kohli continued his aggressive approach and amassed 77 runs off 49 deliveries before his dismissal. With the game hanging in balance, Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror rose to the occasion, steering RCB towards victory. Karthik’s unbeaten 28 off 10 balls, including the winning boundary, alongside Lomror’s quickfire 16 off 8 balls, propelled Bengaluru to a gritty triumph.
Earlier, in a match where batting was subdued, Shashank Singh’s explosive finish added crucial runs to Punjab Kings’ total, reaching 176/6. RCB’s Yash Dayal and Mohammed Siraj emerged as key figures with the ball, Dayal conceding just 23 runs and Siraj taking 2 wickets for 26 runs.
Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, RCB’s captain Faf du Plessis saw early success as Mohammed Siraj dismissed Punjab’s opener Jonny Bairstow. Despite efforts from captain Shikhar Dhawan, RCB maintained pressure on Punjab in the initial overs. Dhawan managed 44 runs off 37 balls before his dismissal, followed by Liam Livingstone’s quick exit after scoring 17 off 13 balls. However, Shashank Singh’s impactful cameo in the final over propelled Punjab to a competitive total.
