Yash Thakur made history in IPL 2024 by securing the tournament’s first five-wicket haul as Lucknow Super Giants secured a 33-run victory over Gujarat Titans.

In the Powerplay of their chase of 165, Gujarat Titans, led by Sai Sudharsan and skipper Shubman Gill, made an impressive start, surpassing 50 runs. However, the dismissal of Gill on the last ball of the sixth over drastically altered the game’s momentum, sending the visitors from 54 for none to 61/4.

Despite facing a manageable target, Gujarat’s batters faced criticism for their shot selection, failing to recover and establish substantial partnerships while losing wickets regularly. Although Rahul Tewatia provided some late fireworks, Lucknow Super Giants’ Yash Thakur stole the show with a dazzling five-wicket haul, securing their 33-run victory against Gujarat this season.

Lucknow Super Giants showcased a commendable bowling display, initially conceding a bit in the Powerplay but quickly regaining momentum with crucial breakthroughs. Yash Thakur’s dismissal of Shubman Gill and Ravi Bishnoi’s remarkable catch to remove Kane Williamson shifted the game’s dynamics in their favor. Krunal Pandya’s stellar performance in the middle overs, claiming three wickets for just 11 runs, further bolstered Lucknow’s dominance. Thakur’s exceptional double-wicket maiden added to Gujarat Titans’ woes, ultimately leading to his magnificent five-wicket haul that sealed the victory for Lucknow.

In their batting innings, Marcus Stoinis anchored the innings with a well-compiled half-century, supported by valuable contributions from Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran.

Although Umesh Yadav and Darshan Nalkande impressed Gujarat with early breakthroughs, their batting collapse during the chase proved decisive in the end.
